LMCM4033 - Coaching & Mentoring Teams & Individuals

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

1 Critically evaluate the key principles of effective mentoring and coaching in light of research into case studies in education and the wider multi-agency workforce
2 Analyse circumstances in which mentoring and coaching may be effective for individuals or groups in professional situations, for community development and in education
3 Critically review their own practice in coaching and mentoring and identify aspects for professional and personal development

Content:

In this module students critically evaluate the principles of coaching and mentoring and the circumstances in which it may positively enable individuals or groups. The specific focus will be on their own personal and professional development as mentors and coaches of individuals, groups, communities and teams – either as clients or colleagues.

Key themes include:
• Building relationships
• Community development and cohesion
• Circumstances and conditions for mentoring
• Mentoring children, young people or adults in a multi-agency context
• Case study evidence of mentoring in practice

Learning and Teaching Information:

Learning will take place in interactive sessions incorporating theoretical input, discussion, debate, ICT research, and action learning sets. Students will be supported by VLE materials, directed reading and workshop sessions. Students will be expected to keep up-to-date with Government policy and guidelines by frequent reference to appropriate websites.
