LMCM4003 - Leadership

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

1 Demonstrate a critical understanding of Leadership models and theories
2 Critically reflect on their own leadership skills, knowledge and characteristics and demonstrate an ability to reflect on personal practice, identifying personal development needs.
3 Critically review key cases and legislative developments related to working with children, young people and families; identify the implications of these for Leadership in Multi-agency working.
4 Synthesise data from a range of sources and critically analyse relevant material in drawing personal conclusions and presenting these in a sustained argument

Content:

In this module students will critically review the development of legislation and practice related to Children’s Services. In addition they will analyse professional standards related to practice in Children’s Services and how to lead multi-disciplinary teams effectively.

Topics will include:
• Key cases: Colwell, Beckford, Cleveland, Climbie
• Legislation: Black Report, 1948-2006 Acts, Children’s Trusts, CAF, CYPP, ECM
• Children’s Services structures, roles and responsibilities
• Leadership: knowledge, skills, characteristics, values
• Reflective practice

Learning and Teaching Information:

Learning will take place in interactive sessions incorporating theoretical input, discussion, debate, ICT research and student presentation. Students will be supported by VLE materials, constructed reading and research tasks and workshop sessions
