Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

Demonstrate a critical understanding of major political doctrines.
Critically evaluate the various civil and political rights, liberties, and freedoms.
Undertake a critical analysis of the current party political situation in the UK and how the three major political parties stand on the various civil and political rights, liberties, and freedoms.

Content:

At the end of this module the learner will be able to demonstrate competence and show understanding of :

1. Major political doctrines:
Capitalism, Communism, Colonialism, Neo-colonialism, Conservatism, Federalism, Feudalism, Imperialism, Liberalism, Marxism, Nationalism. Socialism

2. Civil and political, freedoms, rights and liberties including: Freedoms of assembly, association, expression, speech, press, movement, religion, thought, academic freedom and the right to dignity, information, liberty, privacy, property, seek asylum.
