JOU4972 - Introduction to PR

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

1. Demonstrate a basic understanding of the history and development of PR
2. Demonstrate a basic understanding of the role of PR
3. Demonstrate a basic understanding of the relationship between PR and journalism

Content:

This module introduces students to the history of PR, including the work of Edward Bernays and the influence of Freud and other theorists. The tension between PR and propaganda will be explored leading to an exploration of the role or roles of PR today. The relationship between PR practitioners and journalists will be explored. Throughout relevant examples will be used to illustrate the theoretical models.
