On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
1 Demonstrate the ability to apply the concepts and theories developed through their academic studies in the workplace;
2 Reflect on and evaluate their strengths and weaknesses across a range of key employability skills;
3 Apply employability skills in the workplace and perform to a satisfactory standard;
4 Write an action plan for developing employability skills.
Semester 1: professional development and preparation for placement – a programme comprising:
Introduction to Professional Development Planning and Placements at Level 2
Workshop session including:
o Team work
o Careers planning
o Assessment centre tasks
Briefings on EPO procedure skills and preparation for attachment/assessment
Interview with Placement Tutor
Semester 2: six-week placement – feedback and reflection – completion of portfolio and report (including Action Plan).
Learning and teaching takes place through tutor-led discussion amongst placement tutees, and through preparatory workshop sessions, covering (as may be applicable to specific placement plans): presentations, briefings, discussions, practical activites (role play, drafting, writing), and matters relating to the requirements of the preparatory portfolio and report. Individual tutorials with Placement Tutor/Progress Tutor are provided before the placement starts. A day-conference will be held soon after students complete their placements.
