FAN5032 - Becoming an Adult

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

(1) Identify key factors in adolescent development
(2) Describe and explain some of the challenges faced by adolescents
(3) Identify the issues faced by an adolescent with additional needs
(4) Describe and evalaute the strategies used to support the adolescent with additional needs

Content:

This module will introduce the theories of adolescent development – biological/physical factors/ cultural factors/ psychological factors

The module will focus on:

- Self, identity and achieving independence
- Friendship and peer relationships
- Autonomy, conflict and harmony in the family relationships
- Issues and rights in disability and adolescence from the able and disabled perspective
With reference to the current research bases

Learning and Teaching Information:

At Level 5 it is expected that students will know and understand the essential mechanics of HE study and be able to work more independently in resourcing and researching their learning. Work at Level 5 will emphasize the application and analysis of theory and develop the skills of critical reasoning.
A key teaching and learning strategy used in this module will be hot seating
