FAH5052 - Leading and Managing

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

1) Analyse their own and others’ communication skills
2) Evaluate the importance of leadership within organisations
3) Evaluate a variety of contributing processes to organisational effectiveness
4) Review the principles of change management

Content:

This module will focus on:
• Communication in the workplace
• The nature of leadership and its significance within teams and organisations
• Organisational power, politics and negotiation
• Decision making and organisational effectiveness
• Managing change

In addressing the above, participants will:
• Identify relevant practical issues in their own places of work
• Compare and contrast their experiences with those of others
• Relate their practical experience to theoretical perspectives
• Use these perspectives to develop a broader understanding of their place of work

The module seeks to explore the effectiveness of individual contributions to a range of critical organisational processes.

Learning and Teaching Information:

At Level 5 it is expected that students will know and understand the essential mechanics of HE study and be able to work more independently in resourcing and researching their learning. Work at Level 5 will emphasise the application and analysis of theory and develop the skills of critical reasoning.

A key teaching and learning strategy used in this module will be group activities.
