ENT5002 - Professional Enterprise Development 2 (6 week block)

Objectives:

On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:

1 Demonstrate advanced understanding of approaches to creativity, innovation and enterprise.

2 Conduct an organizational analysis of the enterprise placement provider and analyse the specific attributes of one enterprising individual within the organisation

3 Apply theoretical knowledge and specialist skills to an activity or activities within the enterprise placement provider organization in relation to a specific project related to enterprise.

4 Evaluate their contributions to the enterprise activity and recognize future development opportunities.

Content:

The detailed nature of the enterprise activity will be the subject of a learning agreement between the student, the ‘host’ organization or project, and the College. Enterprising activity may take many forms and may be organized by the student, a collective of students, an external organization in liaison with the College or by the College. The enterprising activity will be required to meet a set of specific criteria relating to, for example, duration, type of activity, profit/surplus generation (this is not restricted to fiscal profit/surplus – for example it might also include intellectual capital, community capital etc.), creativity and innovation etc.

Students will undertake a professional enterprise development preparation programme that will support them in reflecting on their learning to date and making the connections between this and how the processes used in establishing their activity can be captured for future use in employability and further enterprise.

Learning and Teaching Information:

The exact pattern will vary depending upon the nature of the enterprising activity, however all students will undertake a one day conference aimed at expanding their approaches to enterprise, innovation and creativity together with personal and professional development activities aimed at enhancing their professional presentation.

Students will be required to use a range of established techniques to initiate and undertake critical analysis of information, and to propose solutions to problems arising from that analysis; effectively communicate information, arguments, and analysis, in a variety of forms, to specialist and non-specialist audiences, and deploy relevant techniques to solve problems; undertake further training, develop existing skills, and acquire new competences that will enable them to assume appropriate levels of responsibility and to reach an outcome in which they can demonstrate and evidence learning.
