On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
1. Outline and evaluate the key principles of effective mentoring and coaching;
2. Research potential cases and circumstances in which mentoring and coaching may be effective for individuals or groups.
3. Debate how mentoring in learning can enable young people and adults to succeed.
In this module students explore the principles of coaching and mentoring and the circumstances in which it may affect learning to the benefit of individual or groups - this is a theoretical rather than practical module, but students will be encouraged to reflect on their own experiences.
Key themes include:
- Building relationships
- Circumstances and conditions for mentoring
- Mentoring children, young people or adults in a learning context
- Case study evidence of mentoring in practice.
Learning will take place in interactive sessions incorporating theoretical input, discussion, debate, ICT research and student presentation. Students will be supported by VLE materials, constructed reading and research tasks and workshop sessions.
